To accompany the exhibition Jules Spinatsch. 1964 – 2155 at the Bündner Kunstmuseum, Roma Publications is releasing a two-volume publication Including the picture book pitalismus ist ill and the reader On Jules Spinatsch.

The picture book pitalismus ist ill offers an overview of Jules Spinatsch’s body of work spanning more than three decades. It brings together photographs from various series and places them in a new associative relationships. The books elaborate sequencing offers a visual travel through a documentary photography universe, which is based on the the artis’s own and found visual material, as well as algorithmic image-processing that he transforms into photographic installations and publications

On Jules Spinatsch complements the photobook with art-historical and essayistic contributions. The reader explores central themes of Spinatsch’s body of work. The questioning of photography and authorship, as well as topics such as media events, representation, surveillance, and landscape, are examined from various perspectives. The volume also brings together reference images, documents, and the new photo-essay Books in Communication, thereby facilitating an in-depth engagement with Jules Spinatsch’s artistic practice.

Anlässlich der Ausstellung Jules Spinatsch. 1964 – 2155 im Bündner Kunstmuseum erscheint bei Roma Publications eine zweibändige Publikation, die den Bildband pitalismus ist ill sowie den Reader On Jules Spinatsch umfasst.
 
Der Bildband pitalismus ist ill begleitet die Ausstellung mit einem Überblick über Jules Spinatschs Schaffen aus mehr als drei Jahrzehnten. Das Buch versammelt Fotografien aus unterschiedlichen Werkgruppen und bringt sie in einen neuen assoziativen Zusammenhang. Es eröffnet einen visuellen Zugang zu einem Werk, das dokumentarische Fotografie – basierend auf eigenem und gefundenem Bildmaterial sowie algorithmischen Bildverfahren – in fotografische Installationen und Publikationen übersetzt.
 
On Jules Spinatsch ergänzt den Bildband durch kunstwissenschaftliche und essayistische Beiträge. Der Reader erschliesst zentrale Themen des Werks. Die Befragung der Fotografie und der Autorenschaft sowie Themen wie mediale Ereignisse, Repräsentation, Überwachung und Landschaft werden aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven beleuchtet. Der Band vereint zudem Referenzbilder, Dokumente sowie den neuen Bildessay Books in Communication und ermöglicht so eine fundierte Auseinandersetzung mit der künstlerischen Praxis von Jules Spinatsch.
